1-Year-Old Meets the Woman Who Saved Her Life 👶

via Cleveland Clinic

A one-year-old girl, Emma Murphy, who was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver condition shortly after birth, has finally met the woman who saved her life. Emma was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition that leads to liver damage, including permanent scarring of the liver. Emma underwent a liver transplant last November when an anonymous donor, Lori Seitz, stepped forward to donate part of her liver. Doctors performed the living donor surgery at the Cleveland Clinic using a relatively new laparoscopic procedure that required only a few small incisions.

The donor, Lori Seitz, was a stranger to the Terao-Murphy family but had donated a kidney in the past, to her brother in 2020. Two years after that kidney donation, Seitz decided to donate part of her liver to save Emma’s life. Emma's family finally met Lori Seitz for the first time last month, and Seitz was able to hold the baby who now has a piece of her liver. The two families reunited again to celebrate Seitz's birthday on Valentine's Day, which coincides with National Donor Day.

11-Year-Old Twins Hailed Saved Multiple Lives with Their Quick Action 🚗

via City of Massillon-City Hall / Facebook

Crystal Thompson, who has epilepsy, suffered a seizure while driving her SUV on a busy highway. Her twin sons, Jordan and Jermel were quick to take action. Jordan, who was sitting in the backseat, recognized what was happening and quickly alerted his brother Jermel, who had never driven a car before. Jermel immediately grabbed the wheel and safely steered the vehicle into an open field off the highway. The car came to a stop because Thompson's foot was partially on the brake, and the brothers quickly called 911. Their quick thinking likely saved other drivers on the road that day.

City officials and the Massillon police honored the twins for their bravery and quick action. The brothers' calm and collected response impressed everyone, including Sergeant Audrey Aiello, who responded to the call. Aiello wrote a commendation letter for the brothers, thanking them for their honorable actions.
