An 81-year-old man, Jerry Jouret, was stranded alone on a desolate California highway for nearly a week after a snowstorm hit the region. He survived on croissants, candy, and biscotti that he had in his car. Despite wearing only a light windbreaker and having only a light quilt and hotel bath towel to keep himself warm, Jerry conserved his car battery and gas for several days, periodically starting the SUV’s engine to warm up.

After five days of being stranded, Jerry’s family reported him missing, and the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office launched a search. A cellular ping from his phone was identified on March 2, and with the support of California Highway Patrol helicopters, he was eventually located. Despite being ill-prepared for the weather, Jerry did an amazing job of keeping himself in good shape. The only issue found at the hospital was dehydration.
