Around the World in 80 Days

An alligator returned to the zoo after 20 years, a trip around the world for two 81-year-olds, and more.

Good morning! It’s International Women’s Day!

In honor of the day that celebrates women from all backgrounds, races, and ethnicities here are 3 amazing women to remember today:

  1. Rosa Parks, a civil rights activist, refused to give up her bus seat to a white person in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955, sparking a boycott that lasted over a year and led to the desegregation of buses. Her brave action inspired countless others to stand up against injustice and fight for their rights.

  2. Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for women's education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, survived a gunshot wound to the head by the Taliban in 2012, and went on to continue advocating for girls' education around the world. Her courage and resilience have made her a symbol of hope and inspiration for girls everywhere.

  3. Marie Curie, a physicist and chemist who made groundbreaking discoveries in the field of radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win two Nobel Prizes in different fields, and the first female professor at the University of Paris. Her achievements opened doors for women in science and inspired future generations of female scientists.

Shoot us a reply this email with other amazing women that we can celebrate on International Women’s Day!

And, let’s get into the positive things happening in the world today! 👇

Quote of the Day 🗣

"A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform."

Alligator Returned to Zoo After 20 Years 🐊

via Texas Game Warden

An alligator was returned to Animal World Snake Farm and Zoo after it was allegedly stolen more than 20 years ago by a former volunteer who couldn't obtain the necessary permits to get one for herself. The volunteer stole it the egg or hatchling at the time, put it in her pocket, and ran off to keep it as her pet for 20 years.

Texas Parks and Wildlife officials found the alligator still with the lady who had stolen it. It was found after a game warden was investigating possible hunting without landowner’s permission on an adjacent property. World Snake Farm and Zoo, the rightful owners of the alligator, were contacted and have since retrieved the alligator.

81-Year-Old Duo On a Mission to Travel the World in 80 Days 🌎

via Sandy Hazelip and Ellie Hamby

Sandy Hazelip and Ellie Hamby, both 81 years old, are traveling around the world in 80 days, spreading a message to the elderly that if they don't use it, they will lose it. The duo, a physician and a documentary photographer, respectively, met in Zambia two decades ago, and they decided to see all seven continents and all seven wonders of the world as a mission to celebrate their 80th birthdays.

Their itinerary consists of 18 countries, and they've already enjoyed many experiences, such as seeing the world from a plane above Mount Everest, witnessing the northern lights above Lapland, and a trek to see emperor penguins. Despite both having had total knee replacements, they've also enjoyed a sled ride pulled by a dog team and put their foot down on Antarctica. Their motto is to always smile, never get upset, and inspire other seniors to have a "swan song" trip like theirs, rather than wasting away in a chair.
