Boy Undergoes Breakthrough Peanut Allergy Treatment 🥜

via Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust

10-year-old Hugo Codona was one of the first to try a new treatment drug for peanut allergies. The treatment is designed to increase tolerance to peanut protein and reduce the risk of severe reactions like anaphylaxis. Approved by the NHS last year, the treatment involves administering escalating doses of the drug in capsules containing peanut powder, which can be mixed with food to gradually build up a tolerance over time.

Peanut allergies affect more than six million people across the UK, Europe, and America, and are one of the most common causes of food-related deaths. Hugo and his mother, Lucy, hope the treatment will help him manage his peanut allergy and provide more confidence in daily activities, such as dining out or traveling. Aneta Ivanova, a pediatric allergy nurse consultant, noted that a global trial indicated nearly 60% of patients could tolerate 1000mg of peanut protein by the end of the program.

First Cheetah Cubs Born in India After 70 Years 🐆

via BBC News

India has welcomed the birth of four cheetah cubs in Kuno National Park, marking a significant milestone more than 70 years after cheetahs were declared extinct in the country. As part of efforts to reintroduce the big cats, India imported eight cheetahs from Namibia last year and another 12 from South Africa last month. The cubs' mother, Siyaya, was among those brought from Namibia in September.

The environment minister, Bhupender Yadav, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the "momentous event" and commended the team behind Project Cheetah for their efforts. Cheetahs, the world's fastest land animals, became officially extinct in India in 1952 due to hunting, habitat loss, and insufficient prey. Today, around 7,000 cheetahs are found mostly in Africa, with the critically endangered Asiatic cheetah found only in Iran.
