Father's Incredible Weight Loss Journey to Save Son's Life 🏃

via Daniel Kablutsiak
Daniel Kablutsiak embarked on a strict year-long weight loss journey in order to become an organ donor for his 16-year-old son, Hunter, who suffers from stage 5 kidney disease. Daniel needed to lose weight to be eligible for donation, so he focused on improving his diet, cutting back on sugar, and exercising daily. Despite challenges like cold weather and polar bears in his hometown of Arviat, Nunavut, he remained determined.
After losing a total of 79 pounds, Daniel was finally approved as an organ donor for Hunter, with the transplant scheduled for June. Daniel's dedication and determination have had a significant impact on his son, who now has more energy and a renewed spirit. Daniel, now healthier and able to engage in activities such as playing hockey with Hunter, hopes to inspire others struggling to make necessary changes in their lives. He encourages people to "put your mind into it and go for it," believing that if he can do it, anyone else can.

San Diego Zoo Celebrates Birth of Critically Endangered Amur Leopard Twins 🐆

via Ken Bohn / San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo recently announced the birth of critically endangered Amur leopard twins, providing hope for the species as there are fewer than 300 of these leopards remaining worldwide, with less than 100 in the wild. The cubs were born to mother Satka several weeks ago but have only recently emerged from their birthing den, allowing zoo visitors to see the new additions.
The zoo staff have been closely monitoring the cubs' progress, with wildlife care manager Gaylene Thomas expressing excitement about their development and unique personalities. The cubs were born as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Amur Leopard Species Survival Plan, which aims to maintain a healthy population of the endangered felines. This marks the third Amur leopard litter born at the San Diego Zoo, all fathered by a male leopard named Oskar.
