In Portland, Oregon, firefighters successfully rescued Tess, a 14-year-old Labrador retriever, after she fell into a 23-foot-deep manhole. The incident occurred in the Sellwood neighborhood when Environmental Services had removed the manhole cover for a storm drain inspection. Tess's owners, Larry and Linda Beutler, recounted that the dog had walked over to the open manhole expecting a treat and accidentally fell in.

A firefighter was lowered into the manhole to secure Tess in a harness, and a pulley system was used to lift her back to the surface. The rescue operation took approximately an hour, and Tess was unharmed, thanks to a cushion of leaves and debris at the bottom of the manhole. Linda Beutler praised the firefighters as "heroes" and "amazing" for their efforts in saving Tess.

In a speech to reporters, Jason Sudeikis, who plays the titular character, encouraged people to check in on loved ones and emphasized that asking for help should not be stigmatized.

President Biden tweeted a photo of the character's philosophy, "Believe," on a sign above the Oval Office door before the cast's visit. The Emmy Award-winning Apple TV+ series has gained popularity for its positive and heartwarming portrayal of its characters.

From Meme to Harvard 🏫

John Phillips, the face behind the “Crying Northwestern Kid” meme, turned his unique experience into a college application essay that helped him get admitted to Harvard University. Growing up immersed in Northwestern athletics, John's emotional reactions during a March Madness game in 2017 were captured and transformed into a viral meme. You can watch the reaction below… 👇

Embracing the situation, John wrote about the experience in his college essay, getting him accepted into Harvard University, where he is studying Government and Economics, participating in various extracurricular activities, and adjusting to life outside of Chicago. Although he chose Harvard over Northwestern, his family's connections to the latter remain strong. The "Crying Northwestern Kid" meme continues to be a symbol of the emotional roller-coaster that sports fans experience during pivotal moments in their teams' journeys.
