Howdy, Friends! 👋
Today, we're headed back in time to celebrate the 148th anniversary of the inaugural Kentucky Derby, the heart-pounding horse race famously dubbed "The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports." Held in Louisville, Kentucky, the Derby kicked off its rich tradition back in 1875 and has been a pillar of American sports ever since.

The Kentucky Derby, held annually on the first Saturday in May, has become a cornerstone of American sports culture. Although the race itself lasts only a couple of minutes, the excitement it generates echoes throughout the year. The event embodies the spirit of competition, tradition, and camaraderie.

Quote of the Day 🗣
“The heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time.”

Twins Walking 20 Miles in All 50 States 🚶♂️

via ABC News
In an ambitious and inspiring mission, South Carolina twin brothers, Davon and Tavon Woods, are walking 20 miles in every U.S. state to raise awareness about the often overlooked issue of foster care. Their unique journey, influenced by their own time in foster care, has taken them through over 20 states already, with the ultimate goal of reaching all 50. The dynamic duo, founders of the organization Foster Kids Matter, use their past experiences as a catalyst for change, turning their personal history of hurt and neglect into a nationwide call to action.
Their advocacy doesn't end with these walks; they're also committed to practical change. They envision creating quality foster care facilities and housing solutions for young adults aging out of the system. In the past year alone, the twins have managed to provide shelter for several foster care children despite their own housing challenges. They've also launched the "Keeping It Fresh" initiative, in collaboration with other organizations, to gift new shoes to foster children, boosting their self-esteem. Recognizing their tireless efforts, Designer Brands made a generous donation of $10,000 to Foster Kids Matter on "Good Morning America," further fueling the twins' mission. The Woods brothers' story serves as a reminder that personal struggles can be transformed into powerful motivation for positive change.

Mom, Dad, and Daughter All Graduate from College at the Same Time 🎓

via Texas Lutheran University
In a unique and heartwarming twist on the usual graduation narrative, a student at Texas Lutheran University shared her graduation day not only with her peers but also with both her parents. Ashley Adams, an education major, had the unique experience of attending college concurrently with her parents, Robyn and Greg Adams, who returned to school after prioritizing starting a family over finishing their education years earlier. This "surreal" moment, as Ashley describes it, speaks volumes about the power of lifelong learning and the strength of familial bonds.
Robyn and Greg Adams weren't just silent observers of the college experience, either. They became fully immersed in campus life, with Robyn offering support to her classmates and Greg even joining the college golf team. Robyn graduated with a master's degree in accounting, while Greg, a retired Army veteran, pursued a business degree. The Adams family's shared journey through academia culminated in a graduation day that was particularly special, marked by immense pride, shared accomplishment, and a sense of surreal joy that they had all reached this milestone together.
