“Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.”

Rival Soccer Fans Reunite After Life-Saving Event ⚽️

Soccer fans Pippa Rouse and David Norman have been reunited for the first time since Pippa saved David's life five months ago. During a match between their favorite teams (which happen to be rivals), Reading F.C. and Luton Town respectively, Pippa saw David suffer a cardiac arrest and sprung into action, quickly performing CPR until emergency services arrived. David credits Pippa with saving his life and now considers her to be one of his best friends.

David said, "She saved my life, it's as simple as that so probably about the best friend I've got - you can't get a better friend really." Despite his disdain for the rival team, David attended a match at Reading's stadium on Wednesday to thank Pippa for her life-saving acts. The South Central Ambulance Service also attended the match to demonstrate CPR skills and encourage other fans to have confidence in performing the life-saving technique if necessary.

🛶 1,000-year-old canoe recovered

A 1,000-year-old canoe, crafted by the ancestors of the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe, has been pulled from Lake Waccamaw in southeastern North Carolina. The 8.7-metre long dugout canoe is made from pine and is fully intact and remarkably well-preserved. The discovery serves as evidence of the tribe's skilled and thriving pre-colonisation society, said Michael Jacobs, the chief of the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe.

📬 Mailbox brings joy to the neighborhood

Don Powell, a resident of Orchard Lake, Michigan, has received a series of unexpected gifts in his custom mailbox that looks like a modern house. The mailbox contains a miniature home with a family of dolls set up by a mysterious benefactor who has been adding new items, including holiday decor. Don says the whole thing has "created happiness and joy for so many people."

🦠 The CO2 eating microbe

Scientists have discovered a microbe in volcanic hot springs that can capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. The microbe has naturally evolved to absorb CO2 and sink in water, making it a potential tool for carbon capture. The organism grows rapidly, and scientists believe it could be used in ponds to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

👨‍⚕️ From janitor to nurse

Frank Baez, a former janitor at New York University's Langone Tisch Hospital, graduated with a nursing degree from the same institution where he started as a janitor. Baez, who moved to New York from the Dominican Republic with his mother at age 15, got his first job in housekeeping at the hospital to help support his family, and became intrigued with the medical field while working there. He eventually left the job to finish his bachelor's degree at nearby Hunter College and became the first person in his family to graduate from college, before returning to NYU to pursue his nursing degree.
